  1. Show disconnect state on tab

It would be great to show the connection status on the tab icon show in case you have disabled the disconnect message to have a quick status of the connection. Also please add the possibility to reopen a disconnected session by just pressing enter while the tab has focus.

We intend to use overlay icons to show extra information about the sessions (such as what protocol they’re using), so we look into this at that point. I don’t have this commited to a version yet, though.

  2. URL's should launch a browser

Among hundreds of other things we use a terminal client for, we keep a company IRC channel open.

URL's which are entered on-channel have to be manually copied/pasted ito a browser, which is suboptimal.

Please - consider including this functionality in future versions.

  3. SFTP support?

As far as I've seen in the shareware version of PenguiNet, there's no SFTP support? Is this in the paid version? If not, is it planned? I do see that PenguiNet has SCP support, and yes it may be faster, but I believe SFTP should at least be an option. SFTP supports many more file operations then SCP does, and it has other various advantages that would be nice to see in PenguiNet!

Daniel, We’re glad somebody’s mentioned it! We’ve been planning to add SFTP support for a long time, but it hasn’t made it on to the list yet because nobody’s been asking for it. It won’t be in the next version, but hopefully it will have enough votes to be in the version after that.

  4. persistent session manager

hey, I work at a company with many servers. I am connected to at least 5 at a time, and I would be connected to many more, but the problem is when I get disconnected, I have to manually reconnect to everything.

penguinet handles this decently well currently, as I can just click reconnect.. but, I will typically SSH from one server to another (due to how we have security setup), and if I get disconnected I still have to do all this manually.

also, a reboot will of course force me to open a connection to each server again.

Thanks for the idea. You can do something approaching what you want already: within “Send commands” on the “Login” tab, you can set up a script to ssh from some server on to another server.

On the “Options” tab, you can set a parent profile to connect to a bunch of profiles underneath it (“Connect to all children”).

I realise this isn’t quite what you’re after, but as a stopgap solution, you may find it helpful.

  5. Export/Import with Password

    Dear PenguiNet Team,

is there a possibility to export the passwords? Our central management server will move to a new machine and after the export/import under tools with 2.54. there was no password stored.
This is really annoying > we had about 1000 devices listed!

  6. Clone session/new tab position

Please add an option to insert the new tab for a cloned session after the current tab instead of adding it to the end.

  7. Win7 progress bar

When downloading with SCP, add a progress bar in the taskbar's icon (like Chrome, Steam, etc..)

  8. Change cursor color

In PuTTY, we had the ability to change the cursor color - which we used to gently remind us what environment we were connected to - production/test/dev/etc. I don't see that option under Appearance or Colour Scheme. Please add this feature. Thanks!

  9. Alt-W closes connection OR opens tool window

The old beheavor of Alt-W was to open the menu (Window), the new behavior varies.

If a connection is open, then it is closed.
If a connection is not present, then it opens the Window menu.

My muscle reflex when switch between windows was to Alt-W (1,2,3,4), however, that is now very counter productive. And there is no other way to "tab" between windows....

It’s a fair point. Note, though, that there are two other ways to tab between windows: Ctrl+Tab (forwards) and Ctrl+Shift+Tab (backwards) as well as Ctrl+PgUp (forwards) and Ctrl+PgDn (backwards).

  10. PenguiNet as ssh:// Action-Link responder

Is it possible - to modify the Windows OS to open ssh:// Action-Links with PenguiNet? PenguiNet maybe could install this automatic?

  11. ssh -N mode missing in application

For me this is a killer ... This ssh client appears to not support a "ssh -N .." mode. Typically useful for when you want to connect but only forward ports behinds the connected server.

  12. File Upload Telnet Icons

When I am connected to a server I normally have a file upload window open and a telnet window open as well.

In the bar at the bottom of the screen it used to have a different icon for file uploads compared to the telnet window so it was easy to work out which was which.

A very minor thing I know but now have to flick through lots of windows when I have multiple connections open, please bring it back....

p.s - Apart from that it still is a fantastic program :)

Thanks for the feedback – much appreciated.

We are considering using “overlay” icons to allow you to differentiate what kind of session it is.

Is that what you had in mind?
