  1. SFTP support?

As far as I've seen in the shareware version of PenguiNet, there's no SFTP support? Is this in the paid version? If not, is it planned? I do see that PenguiNet has SCP support, and yes it may be faster, but I believe SFTP should at least be an option. SFTP supports many more file operations then SCP does, and it has other various advantages that would be nice to see in PenguiNet!

Daniel, We’re glad somebody’s mentioned it! We’ve been planning to add SFTP support for a long time, but it hasn’t made it on to the list yet because nobody’s been asking for it. It won’t be in the next version, but hopefully it will have enough votes to be in the version after that.

  2. Add quick open text box

Instead of having to navigate my very large tree of hosts, it would be nice to have a quick open text input box that you could type in the connection name. This could also provide suggestions based on the users input.

  4. persistent session manager

hey, I work at a company with many servers. I am connected to at least 5 at a time, and I would be connected to many more, but the problem is when I get disconnected, I have to manually reconnect to everything.

penguinet handles this decently well currently, as I can just click reconnect.. but, I will typically SSH from one server to another (due to how we have security setup), and if I get disconnected I still have to do all this manually.

also, a reboot will of course force me to open a connection to each server again.

Thanks for the idea. You can do something approaching what you want already: within “Send commands” on the “Login” tab, you can set up a script to ssh from some server on to another server.

On the “Options” tab, you can set a parent profile to connect to a bunch of profiles underneath it (“Connect to all children”).

I realise this isn’t quite what you’re after, but as a stopgap solution, you may find it helpful.

  5. Add the ability to clear the scroll buffer

Add an option to clear the scroll buffer. Sometimes, while debugging a large amount of build output, I find it easier to just throw away the scroll buffer so I can easily tell where I'm at in my output stream.

PenguiNet already has a feature to allow local files to be uploaded automatically after editing. Would that help?

In general, the concept of synchronisation sounds useful. Please can you provide more information on the kind of features you would use?

  7. Allow tab renaming

I should be able to rename a tab. For example, right click -> rename. Sometimes I'll open quite a few windows to a build box. I'd like to be able to rename them based on what product I'm working on. So this isn't a case of a different profile, just more of a temporary rename for that session.

  8. problem getting onto server using SCP session?

I have about 50 server I connect to. Many different Unix and Linux OS's. I can connect using SSH, never a problem. But about half of the server do not let me connect using SCP for file transfers. The message it says is: Permission to change to the selected directory was denied. The directory was not changed. I use the same password for all and have LDAP server. I checked my password, but nothing will let me get to these paticular servers?

I use WinSCP for these servers and connect with no problem? What's going on here?

  9. Drown and heartbleed defeat disables connections

After an update setup heartbleed and drown defeats, I can no longer connect to servers using Penquinet. Is there an update soon to address this?

  11. user defined "send command" buttons

i using secure crt for years. but now i've changed my employer which doesn't have secure crt. now i'm searching for a lower priced alternative.

    what i missed...

    - a bar with user defined buttons (with commands, scripts oder something like this)

this my absolute favorite feature in secure crt. i love it! with this feature i've often used commands or scripts on a single button...1 click away (one command per button). very very nice for a fulltime unix admin!!

  12. Save & load groups of sessions

Everytime I open penguinet I open four different connections, and then tile them horizontally. it would be great to be able to:

    1) Save a group of connections, and their window locations so you can load the entire group at once and restore your workspace.

    2) Have "Reconnect" windows appear in the exact same place/size as the original window.

  13. Autmatically backup profiles on close

Automatically backup/export profiles on application close, to a target directory I can choose (may be simply added in export profile tab as a "Do it automatically on each app close" checkbox). I recently crash my system disk, and my manually exported profiles were 12 month old on my data disk... Everything lost !

  14. Please could we have the option to add a "side bar" showing the connection profiles down the right side of the main window

Please could we have the option to add a "side bar" showing the connection profiles down the right side of the main window. A bit like showing the bookmarks in Firefox. This wil show which profiles are connected and allow you to fire up a new one. Similar to MS's Remote Desktop Connection Manager, but for SSH obviously.

  15. tab behavior

Clicking on an active tab causes the focus to shift to the neighboring tab. Clicking on the same tab again brings the focus back. Clicking on an active tab should *never* cause it to lose focus. The difference in appearance between the active tab and other tabs is fairly small, so it is easy to get confused about which tab is active.

Thanks for the suggestion. We had originally modelled it on how the Windows Start Bar works but I think we will look to make it work more like tabbed browsing on Internet Explorer, Chrome et al.

  16. Label session on toolbar

We use multiple instances of the same connection profile so the toolbar will just display the profile name we defined on the connection profiles. Is there any way to edit the name that displays on the toolbar to better keep track of the sessions?

  19. add more supported protocols

Would you consider adding http and https protocol support?

These could effectively be links to the ms url protocol handler, and open in the default browser when clicked.

this would help me use penguinet to store my host information for any servers which include a web gui such as zentyal, proxmox, endian firewall, etc.

Obviously authentication information couldn't be stored but that responsibility would be handed off to the browser.

Later on, perhaps other protocols could be registered such as rdp and vnc but I suppose that is drifting in a non-penguin-shaped direction...

  20. Export/Import with Password

    Dear PenguiNet Team,

is there a possibility to export the passwords? Our central management server will move to a new machine and after the export/import under tools with 2.54. there was no password stored.
This is really annoying > we had about 1000 devices listed!
